I Am Mother

Here’s some FUI work from the Netflix sci-fi film ‘I Am Mother’, which is about a girl raised in insolation by an android. The film is beautifully stylised and the UI contributes to that.

The UI is presented at different scales from smaller touch pads and handheld devices to floor-to-ceiling holograms. The smaller UI designs feel like simplified versions of complicated aerospace data. They use a simple colour palette and are neatly arranged, clear, and very approachable. The larger UI designs create interesting backdrops to several shots. They even show a bit of pixelation on closer inspection, which helps anchor the technology to feel within reach of our current time. It adds a bit of character to the designs as opposed to having completely crisp 4k imagery.

If you’re a fan of sci-fi then you should definitely check it out, I personally really enjoyed it! Too often you see sci-fi films that build up a great premise only to fizzle out towards the end. I Am Mother is consistently well presented throughout.
